Fading Light

As the disease progresses, I’m becoming more superstitious, as if The Universe is sending me subtle messages. I started at level 0 and now I’m around a 3 out of 10.

Since moving to Vancouver about 21 years ago, I haven’t missed a night of the English Bay fireworks unless I was out of town. Afraid to break the streak, we went tonight to “Summer Lights in English Bay..” It’a scaled-down, single-night version of the Celebration of Light, which used to run across three or four nights.

I showed up with low expectations, mostly there just to keep the tradition intact because it might be my last show. I wasn't disappointed. It was a mediocre display of unimpressive fireworks, set to random music that wasn't synchronized to the explosions.

Maybe The Universe is sending me a thematic sign: all light eventually fades.
